Provides insight into how to reach your full professional potential after graduation. Topics of discussion will include interviewing, resume building, leadership, networking, and marketing yourself to a broad range of industries and people. Today’s business leaders will teach Cal Poly students how to best position themselves for a successful career.
Investing in the Future to Counteract Economic Downturn
In light of rising in food and gas prices, and the declining housing market, this workshop will provide tips on how to plan financially to protect yourself in times of economic strain and save for retirement without depending on social security. Finance experts use today’s “recession” as a case study to teach students how to invest wisely in the future. Also will include discussion of stocks, IRAs, portfolios, socially responsible investing, and, of course the first steps to financing a business.
International Finance
Assesses current domestic and international financial situations including currency issues, USA’s massive debt and its effect on the global economy, investing in emerging markets and globalization. Answers questions such as: What international industries to invest in? What countries to invest in? How to invest internationally?
Sustainability & Green Business
Opens with an introduction and examination of current trends in “green” business and environmental sustainability and what constitutes a green business (green standards). Then professionals will delve deeper into how to align environmental responsibility with business success.
International Internships & Careers, Studying Abroad
Offers the opportunity to explore, collaborate, and live in foreign countries while building interrelationship skills through the exposure of cultural diversity. Learn how experience abroad can enhance current or future career. Conversely, learn how to help foreign coworkers adjust to working and living in the United States.

Outsourcing & Globalization with Technology
Addresses the increasing presence of outsourcing practices within today’s growing businesses as well as how recent innovations and technology have changed the job market to allow for outsourcing. The workshop will also incorporate discussion about the escalating number of businesses that choose to penetrate international markets to make for a more globalized and multi-market corporations.
Diversity in the Workplace
Discussion within this workshop will involve the topics of adapting the hiring and training practices per culture, cultural and behavioral differences among co-workers, change in management practices based on location, and numerous considerations when managing a diverse workforce. The workshop will also discuss the changes involved when domestic companies go international and how they accommodate for differences in workforce behaviors and values.
